Saturday night, Tara came in the house and said, "Mom, you have to come see this dog! It's so cute!" It was late, cold and rainy and I didn't really care to go see it. She kept bugging me about it, so I finally relented, let out a big sigh and hauled my girth off the couch. I had to admit, the dog was really cute and it was cold, so we brought her in the house. Kayleigh loved her. She's this little black and white puppy with big Chihuahua-looking ears. Kayleigh said she looks like a cow, so we were calling her "Cowdog." Tara and her friend, Kyndra, set out to find the owners as Cowdog wasn't wearing a collar.
Now...Matt has some deeply-ingrained animal issues (you may recall an earlier post about the attack of the killer dog while jogging). Since we met, we've downsized from four to zero animals. Though he hasn't quite admitted it, he loves this puppy!!! In the half hour we had her in the house, she was really friendly and well-behaved and wasn't all jumpy and yippy.
Well, Tara and Kyndra found out that Cowdog is staying a few doors down the street with a friend of the people who live there. Cowdog doesn't actually belong to him, but his friends who are in the process of moving. Supposedly, though, he's had her for about four months. (I wouldn't have thought she was even that old yet as she's pretty small.) Her owners aren't sure if they'll be able to take her with them when they move. On Sunday, I sent Tara on a mission to acquire more information. She found out that the real owners are willing to give (not sell - nice!) Cowdog (whose real name is Daisy) to a good family if they can't take her with them. For whatever reason, they'll find out today if they can keep her. If not, we're going to see if they'll let us have her. Matt's agreed as long has he doesn't have to pick up any you-know-what. If we do, I'm pretty sure we won't be calling her Daisy, and certainly not Cowdog. (One of the cats who "took a ride" after we got married was named Daisy.)
Stay tuned! Life could be getting more interesting...

Dogs are great. Matt's deep dog issues probably come from our childhood. We had the choice between a dog or a swing set. We were informed over and over that swing sets don't poop and that dogs poop - a lot! Of course, we all chose the swing set. Dogs do poop, but they give you so much unconditional devotion that it is so worth it. Good luck!
Well, at least Cowdog won't be trying to "hug" Kayleigh from behind as Gus is wont to do!
